Creating a Fairly Payroll for Temps shift

Fairly Payroll Shifts let you create shifts where temps are paid as employees instead of contractors. This is optional at the product level, but it’s important to note that the CRA requires temps to be treated as employees, not independent contractors.

Using Fairly Payroll for Temps ensures your clinic stays compliant while simplifying payroll and reporting.

Creating a Fairly Payroll Shift

To start creating a shift:

  • Click "Create Shift"

Requesting Access to Fairly Payroll for Temps

If Fairly Payroll for Temps is not yet activated for your clinic:

  • Click "Request Access"

After you request access:

  • Our team will onboard your clinic

  • Fairly Payroll Preview Mode will be turned off once onboarding is complete

Until onboarding is finished and Preview Mode is disabled, you won’t be able to create payroll shifts for temps.

The CRA requires temps to be paid as employees, not contractors. Fairly Payroll for Temps is designed to support this requirement.

Paying a Temp as an Employee

Once your clinic is onboarded and Fairly Payroll Preview Mode is off:

  • Click "Create Shift"

  • Click "Yes, pay this temp as an employee through Fairly Payroll"

You can then complete the rest of the shift details as usual.

What Happens After the Shift Is Filled

When a temp is hired for a Fairly Payroll shift:

  • The temp is treated as an employee for that shift

  • Payment is processed through Fairly Payroll for Temps

  • Payroll deductions, remittances, and reporting are handled automatically

    • T4s and ROEs are generated and filed automatically

This allows you to confidently post shifts knowing they’re structured correctly from a payroll and compliance perspective.
